Mission
Our mission is to provide business education, applied research, and consultancy which are firmly based in the realities of local and global business, in order to facilitate the contribution of Hong Kong and Mainland China to the world’s economy.
Our academic staff will have an international orientation, the motivation and the personal development needed to provide students with an effective learning experience.
Our graduates will be ‘Qualified for the real world’ having a global outlook and the capacity to work effectively in an international business environment. They will be able to make an immediately enhanced contribution to the organizations in which they work and be prepared for a lifetime of continued learning and professional development.
Milestones
2003: Professor Judy Tsui assumed deanship of the Faculty of Business and launched it on a new phase of development. The "Faculty of Business and Information Systems" was renamed the "Faculty of Business" and restructured by the setting up of new schools (School of Accounting and Finance, and Graduate School of Business) and departments (Department of Logistics, and Department of Management and Marketing).
2008: The Department of Logistics was renamed Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies to reflect the department’s established role as a key provider of maritime studies in the region.
Structure
The Faculty includes the Graduate School of Business, Hong Kong’s first graduate business school, established to coordinate all Faculty research activities and host all postgraduate programmes and three other academic units. The three academic units are: International Rankings
- The Faculty is ranked No. 66 in the world in the latest UTD (University of Texas at Dallas) Top 100 Business Schools Worldwide Rankings based on research published in the 24 top business journals for the period of 2004 to 2008.
- The Faculty is ranked 42nd in the world for its Finance and Economics research by a study published in the Journal of Financial Economics 93 (2009) 353, 356. PolyU is the only university in Asia and Australia to make the cut in the ranking of the top 50 universities in the world.
International Accreditations - Since February 2007: the EQUIS accreditation through the European Foundation for Management Development
- Since July 2006: the AMBA accreditation through the Association of MBAs

Our Programmes
The Faculty offers an extensive range of undergraduate (BBA scheme), postgraduate coursework (Postgraduate Diploma and Master's Degree), and postgraduate research (MPhil and PhD) award programmes. We offer: Senior executive training where participants become scholar-managers and obtain the award of either Corporate and business management training leading to one of the following awards MBA on the Chinese mainland
Function-specific and profession-specific training leading to one of the following awards Master of Science in Accountancy, China Business Studies, Global Supply Chain Management, International Shipping and Transport Logistics, Management (Operations/ Health Services/ Human Resource/ Public Sector), Quality Management and Marketing Management
We operate some of the unique programmes in Hong Kong, such as BBA in Accounting & Finance and the BBA/MSc in International Shipping and Transport Logistics. Our DBA programme, launched in 1996, was the first of its kind in Hong Kong.

Research Centres Research The Faculty is committed to creating and disseminating new knowledge by conducting high quality research that has relevance to and implications for business and the wider community.
