The Faculty of Business shapes new knowledge through dynamic research initiatives. At any given time, our Faculty members are engaged in research projects across a whole range of business disciplines including Accounting, Finance, Maritime and Logistics Studies, Management and Marketing. To facilitate the integration of Hong Kong's economy with that of Mainland China, the Faculty has identified "China Business Services" as the area of strategic development comprising the following three streams of research programmes and encompassing five Centres:
Corporate Governance - Asia-Pacific Centre for Corporate Governance Studies (APCCGS)
APCCGS conducts interdisciplinary research on various issues in corporate governance in the Asia-Pacific region, in collaboration with leading scholars around the world. The Centre publishes Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics (JCAE) and hosted the Joint JCAE & AJPT (Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory) Symposium in 2008, aiming to foster corporate governance research in the region.
Logistics and Maritime Studies - C.Y. Tung International Centre for Maritime Studies (ICMS)
C.Y. Tung ICMS provides quality and comprehensive maritime education for Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Asian countries and engages application-oriented research in maritime logistics of shipping and supply chain operations. The Centre also conducts professional training and consulting activities in the field of shipping and supply chain logistics from both management and economics perspectives, bridging our academia with shipping industries. A wide-ranging cutting-edge research agenda has been developed.

The mission of LRC is to accelerate the development of knowledge and solutions in the logistics industry. Through research, consultancy and training programmes, LRC will become a major driving force to facilitate Hong Kong's role as an advanced logistics service centre.
- IMC-Frank Tsao Maritime Library and Research & Development Centre (IMC Centre)
The objective of the Centre is to promote maritime education and research to enhance the position of Hong Kong's maritime industry. Located on PolyU campus, the Centre houses a comprehensive maritime library and provides up-to-date maritime information for the government and the maritime community. In addition to library information services, the Centre will initiate and conduct research as well as provide training for the industry.
In March 2009, the University has designated the stream of Logistics and Maritime Studies an 'Area of Strength' (AoS). Retail Marketing and Marketing Innovation - Asian Centre for Brand Management (ACBM)
ACBM conducts vigorous academic research on branding issues that have practical value for improving business performance. It also hosts annual International Conference on Brand Management to promote brand management and design innovation to the audience. A sustainable research project on retail marketing and service quality - "Customer Perceived Value (CPV) in Hong Kong's Retail Sector" - commenced in 2004. The findings have been crucial in assisting Hong Kong's retail industry to sustain its competitiveness in the region.

Our professors are committed to synthesising research results into practical and usable information for use by the business community. Through interdisciplinary collaboration across departments, new concepts and frameworks flow quickly into the classroom as fuel for fresh, dynamic and effective instruction. The knowledge generated also touches the business community and changes the ways in which business is done in the real world. | |
